Lesson Learned

Last night I knit Finger Two!
But with this being my first attempt at knitting gloves I didn't know enough as I was casting on for the finger not to leave a huge hole between it and its neighbour Finger One.
It was an innocent mistake (different from my more usual "I just wasn't thinking" type of error) so I'm not going to beat myself up too badly about it. I'' just consider it a lesson learned, rip it out and try to do it right the second time.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. heh heh - and there you have the reason I have still never knit a glove, even though they are my handwarmer of choice ;^) The fingers look fab though!

  2. Uh oh. But, at least you figured it out before you knit more fingers. I bet the finger probably didn't take very long though. Looks fun! :-)

  3. I like to pick up a few extra stitches and decrease them away in the next round. So if I cast on 2 stitches for the finger, I'll pick up 4.

Another enhancement I like to make is to start with the pinky finger. Then I'll knit a couple extra rounds on the hand before starting the ring finger. Most people's pinkie is lower down on the hand then the rest of the fingers. But this might not work for the pattern you've chosen.

  4. Deb Gemmell taught me to close holes by treating them like the little cloth bag purses we carried as girls. Remember how the top closed by pulling a ribbon through a casing? On the inside of your glove, leaving a tail, skim yarn around the opening. Pull both the yarn and the tail to draw the hole closed. Works like a charm.

  5. I like Brenda's approach - just close the hole with the yarn tail. I do the same thing with underarms.

  6. I've never knitted gloves. I think you're extraordinarily clever to even try doing it. I'm sure you'll find a solution. Love the colour of the yarn.

  8. I think I've made one pair of gloves- they are a little tricky- but those look terrific.
